Guess who's a winner?

gotta read all this paperworkPaela is a cutie. Just check out the latest photo album if you doubt me. She's having longer awake times (once she even stayed up for three hours in a row!), and laughing more and more like she gets the jokes and silliness around her. She still loves going for nice long walks, and sits up for longer and longer stretches.  read more »

home, washington

sucking on a bucketWe are all still trying to recooperate from daylight savings time and the havok it wrecked on Paela. She woke at 7 am, expecting it to be 6 am, decided it was too early and went back to sleep for another hour. This made us late for church and fueled a fussy baby who didn't know how long she was supposed to stay up or how long of naps to take on the run. Not to mention that I ended up with a two hour nap somehow.

Hopefully that will all be sorted out, although I wasn't expecting this much hassle with a baby out of step with our time frames. Does she somehow know? I doubt it.  read more »

just one doughnut a day

Chasing DucksWe experimented with making doughnuts last night. They were a smashing success. It was too late to wait up for them to cool down enough to try putting jelly in the ones we didn't make holes for, but later today we'll finish those up. Mmm.  read more »

CAA and Dallas

Paela SittingRebecca was really happy to have me home.

After a week of conferences in Dallas, I'm very tired and was glad to be home. I'll write about the conference in a different entry, as to cover the important topics for me to remember next year and so as not to bore people with details. I need to make a list -- or rahter transpose my list from my sketch book -- of important notes to remember for next year.  read more »

a Christmas opera

ready for ChurchWe started off the week last Sunday playing some games with Karl and Angela and Chris and Alyssa. Ethan and Thomas and Paela were all nice playing "together" (babies don't really play "together" so much, and Paela really just napped and watched and practiced rolling over...and fussed some, wishing we were outside). We have to make good use of Sunday afternoons since this is the year of early Church for us! Though some weeks (like today) we just want to use it to catch up on sleep, hanging out with friends and family last week was definitely fun.  read more »

Japanese gardens... better than San Francisco?!?!

Paela looking at ducks and fishPaela loves her feet. She loves her toes, in particular.

Two Sundays ago, I took her with me into a church meeting and a little toddler boy kept running up to her, grabbing those toes and shouting "toooess!" at her. While his father was embarrassed for this child's actions, Paela was mesmerized by the sudden interest in her body. What are toes, she seemed to inquire of herself.

Since that day, she's been obsessed with those little toes. She loves them so much, everytime she's on her back she grabs at her feet and holds on tightly.  read more »

world records

Paela with an arm downPaela set a new world record for herself. She fell asleep at 8 last night and slept and slept...until 6:30 in the morning. Whoa. It's the longest she's ever slept in a row. Who knows when she'll decide to do it again, but we kept waking up all night wondering if she was still okay!  read more »

Paela the chatterbox

Paela laughingIn a moment of desperation, we got out and assembled a hanging/moving mobile to keep Paela's interest. While it did keep her minorly stimulated for a few minutes, we have found that she is becoming more interested in objects in general. She waits for the hanging objects to come her way, grabs them, and then pulls with all her might to force the mobile backwards on its mechanized track.  read more »

tales of a first camping trip

cousins campingPaela and her cousin Thomas both shared a first camping trip this weekend. It started off later than we would have liked, but these things usually do. We went to Lehi Park, which is a little over an hour away towards Santa Cruz.  read more »
