We experimented with making doughnuts last night. They were a smashing success. It was too late to wait up for them to cool down enough to try putting jelly in the ones we didn't make holes for, but later today we'll finish those up. Mmm.
Yesterday was a full day with adventures in the park feeding ducks, a mysteriously long nap for Paela, and several errands. Who knew Target here doesn't open before 8am? Now we know. Also, they never have our vacuum bags. After looking and asking employees five trips in a row, we'll just have to look online somewhere.
Friday we decided to use some discover card cashback bonus awards and eat out. The funny part about that experience was that we felt discriminated against for the first time at a restaurant -- we got put in a back room between two other families with young children. The next several groups they brought into the back room also had young babies. Apparently Buca di Beppo thinks people with babies like to sit with each other? [Also sitting in the back room where we "can't bother other customers"?! What kind of blatant discrimination is this?! So next time, get a seat with one person, keeping the baby out of sight. Then, after that person is seated, come in with the baby -- they'll never see it coming!]
I left Wayne and Paela Thursday so I could go to a parenting book group. We talked about a book on "positive discipline" for young ones: Positive Discipline: the First Three Years. Really the book covered so many topics under the sun, but related to how you could teach and train a child through all these early life experiences without timeouts and spanking and saying no all the time. It was fun getting together with other moms, even if I had to leave briefly in the middle to feed Paela once more when she woke up unexpectedly hungry; fortunately we were meeting in our apartment complex, so I didn't have far to go!
The rest of the week we simply enjoyed being all together again, and tried to research places to stay in Germany at the end of the month. It's reminding me how much I've forgotten in the past few years! Hopefully we'll nail down the last couple of lodging reservations soon.
Happy Dr. Seuss day today...not sure we'll celebrate tons other than a customary reading of some old favorites...just wait till next year, Paela!
