Happy Anniversary to us. At least, that was true on Monday. But that seems like a lifetime away.
Aderyn got sick last night. We heard from Camilla that Cameron was sick and she was concerned she had passed the delayed bug to us, but it wasn't manifest until last night [so who knows if it really is the same bug or just looks the same]. And we settled ourselves down for a long and painful night, only to find it to be amiable. Aderyn was so sick, all she wanted to do was cuddle and be drowsy, all night and all day. She took several more naps than usual and spent much of the day clinging to Rebecca. Until the last hour, when she exploded with energy (and Paela as well) and has decided that the long and painful night should be the first night after recovery since she slept all day already.
At least, we hope this is recovery, not relapse.
Saturday, Paela went to her first birthday party for a friend. We had been talking about it all week -- even watching online videos demonstrating how to do a slip 'n slide -- but I don't think that prepared us as parents for the stimulation overload (and meltdown) that it caused. There were just too many people and too much going on. I spoke with the father of the birthday girl today and he told me that all the kids went home like that: screaming and over stimulated. Ah, to be young again.
Rebecca had a book club night one of those nights. They didn't start to discuss the book until 9 at night, so Rebecca didn't get to stay for the full discussion. One of the mothers of a girl at Paela's nursery cornered Rebecca to tell her that their daughter has declared that Paela will be her friend. So we need to schedule some times for them to get together.
And our anniversary was on Monday. We had such a positive experience with last week's babysitting that we were glad to drop the two kids off at Camilla's house and go have a nice quiet dinner together. Again, things went smoothly [or so we're told... :)]. I suppose our girls do well with babysitters who have other kids and don't need to put them to bed. Maybe we can make this an occurrence more frequent than once [or twice] a year.
