oh to play hookey more...

It's been a busy week at work. We're coming out of beta use this week for our product, so there was lots of to-dos on my agenda every day. You would think we wouldn't be adding/changing functionality heavily right before going into general use...but we are. It has kept me busy in the evenings when Wayne would head off to campus to try and make a little progress on his projects.

We took a much needed break twice during the week. The first was for National Cheesecake day on Wednesday. We made a chocolate cheesecake and enticed Karl and Angela and Thomas to come over during the lunch hour. We decided we should have planned time for naps, and that we should play hookey like that in the middle of the day every day.

The second break was Saturday, when Karl and Angela entertained Paela for us at their pool while we went to a movie. We saw the new Batman movie, and enjoyed it. I thought it was very intense, and Wayne couldn't remember the last time I squeezed his hand so much during a movie. It's always so much more intense seeing movies like that in the theater.

To make up for all the cheesecake, we saw our dentist on Thursday. Paela came too, and the assistant did her best to occupy Paela's attention so Wayne and I could both be cleaned at the same time. Paela did alright being held by the assistant -- until the assistant went from my room to Wayne's and back again. My theory is the last "back again" was the final puzzle piece to clue Paela in to the fact that both her parents were there, but neither one was holding her. She burst into tears when she saw me. Fortunately, she played on my lap contentedly with a toothbrush while my teeth were cleaned, only dropping the toothbrush once when she saw a little paper cup that looked like fun.

In other Paela news, I don't know if we mentioned she has two little teeth now, and a third on its way. She loves the new apartment and quickly figured out the sound of the front door opening; she makes a beeline for the outside world, taking after the kitty in this. She loves playing in the water fountains, or crawling up the stairs in our complex. We recently got a booster seat that attaches to our kitchen chair, and it makes feeding her so much easier now that she stays in place. She still loves "playing" the piano and "singing" along. She also figured out this week how to kick her feet in the pool to make fun splashes instead of just kicking to kick (her attempt at swimming)...which she has taken to practicing during bathtime. There are more fun things about having a Paela around, but I think that should suffice for now.
